Shōrin-ryū Seibukan Karate – Traditionel Okinawa-Karate

Seibukan stands for the ‘House of True Fighting’ and symbolises the respectful and sincere path of karate dō, which goes far beyond pure self-defence.

The Seibukan branch of Shōrin-ryū Karate was founded in 1962 by Zenryō Shimabukuro, a direct disciple of Chōshin Chibana, the founder of Kobayashi Shōrin-ryū. After the founder's death, his son Zenpo Shimabukuro took over and continued to develop the Seibukan system without losing sight of its traditional roots.

The training centres on clear, powerful techniques, natural movements and fast counters. The typical stances in Shōrin-ryū are high and mobile, which allows for quick changes of direction and fast reactions. Practising kata - fixed forms of movement - forms the backbone of the training. They not only teach technique, but also body awareness, rhythm and the philosophy of karate. The most important forms include Pinan, Naihanchi, Passai Dai, Kusanku Dai and Gojūshiho. Shōrin-ryū Seibukan Karate is not just a martial art, but a holistic path to personal development. Values such as discipline, respect, self-control and perseverance are taught during training. At the same time, health is promoted, flexibility is improved and self-confidence is strengthened.

Today, Seibukan Karate is practised all over the world - from Okinawa to the USA and Europe. Many dojos maintain an intensive exchange with each other in order to preserve the traditional teaching methods and the high technical quality of the style.

Whether young or old, beginner or advanced - Shōrin-ryū Seibukan Karate offers everyone a way to develop physically and mentally and become part of a living tradition.
