Seibukan Karate Dojo Leipzig
Karate - Kobudo - Self Defense

Our Classes

Our training takes place in small groups (maximum 10-12 people per instructor), as traditional Okinawa Karate is demanding and much emphasis is placed on individual development and correct execution of the exercises.

Karate for children aged 5-9

Children have a natural urge to move and a need to test their physical limits again and again as they develop. Karate training channels this urge in a targeted way and thus supports physical and mental development.
Among other things, regular training improves body awareness, self-confidence, strength, speed and endurance, balance and coordination. In addition, simple applications of the techniques are taught in order to be able to protect oneself in an emergency. The training is rounded off with small movement games such as obstacle courses and other exercises that are fun for children and encourage them to move.

Karate for children and teenagers aged 10-14

In the children's and youth group, the focus is on learning and/or deepening the basics previously acquired in children's training, but it is also possible to join at any time without previous experience. The children and young people are given a better sense of body and self-esteem, enjoyment of exercise and interaction with their peers. In addition to physical training and mental development, the focus is on teaching values such as respect (for oneself and others), perseverance, determination and learning self-defense

Karate for youth and adults (from 15 years)

Karate is an unarmed martial art whose predecessor developed over several centuries on Okinawa, an island in southern Japan. Cultural exchange, particularly with China and Japan, gave rise to a martial art which, on the one hand, aimed to develop the most effective fighting techniques possible and, on the other, to train character and achieve a high level of self-discipline in order to avoid the use of said fighting techniques whenever possible. In addition to the physical training aspect, karate today continues to focus on precisely these two points: character development and self-defense. In contrast to many other martial arts, body size, mass and strength are of secondary importance, as the techniques are designed to make optimum use of biomechanics, manipulation of joints and speed, so that even those who are supposedly physically inferior can defend themselves effectively.

For young people, karate training is a way to improve self-confidence and self-esteem, which also leads to respect and consideration for others. For adults, on the other hand, karate is an enrichment of life and a balance to stressful everyday life. Karate training also prevents one-sided (physical or mental) stress and creates a physical and mental balance.

Kobudo training (from 12 years)

Kobudo (“the way of ancient weapons”) - is an armed martial art whose development is closely linked to that of karate. For a long time, the inhabitants of Okinawa - the largest island of an entire island chain in southern Japan - were forbidden to carry weapons. Nevertheless, there was a need to be able to defend themselves. So, in addition to the unarmed art of karate, they developed fighting techniques against armed attackers, turning everyday objects such as tools for field and garden work or fishing into effective weapons. In training, we practise the basic techniques of the various weapons alone and in use against various other weapons with partners. Just like karate, kobudo training provides a physical and mental balance to everyday life and improves body awareness, concentration, coordination and fitness. At the same time, practice with a close combat weapon improves the ability to defend oneself in an emergency or to use everyday objects in self-defense.

Self-defense courses from the age of 13

While self-defense is only one part of the training in karate, the SV course goes straight into practice. In addition to basics such as posture and simple kicks and punches, role-playing is used to practise dealing with possible conflict and dangerous situations. In addition, simple defense techniques are taught in training with partners and in the group, for example to protect against blows or to free oneself from holds. The course is rounded off with exercises to increase stress resistance and mental preparation for an emergency, which is essential in heated or even dangerous situations. Participation is possible in normal sportswear, a karate suit is not required.
Registration before the start of the course is mandatory!
The duration of the courses is limited, an extension is possible if enough people are interested.
